After graduating from Central Michigan in the mid 90’s, my wife Kelly and I, the original owners of Bellacino’s, embarked in careers in the insurance industry. I worked for one of the largest insurance agencies in Michigan selling commercial, life and health insurance to businesses in the Midwest.
Kelly worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, as a field services representative, working with local doctor’s offices. After three years in the “real” world, we decided we wanted to own a restaurant. We have close friends that own similar businesses in Nashville, Muncie, IN and EuClaire, WI and thought it would be fun to run and own a restaurant –as well as a lot of hard work.
As a young couple, we sold our duplex and took our life savings and moved to Stow, OH from Grand Rapids, MI. We looked at several locations to open a restaurant including Metro Detroit, Metro Cleveland and Nashville but settled on Stow due to the friendly community and close proximity to Kent State University and the University of Akron.
The rest is history. Bellacino’s of Stow originally opened September 26, 1998 at its first location in the Target and Giant Eagle shopping center behind Applebee’s. We decided to start a family one-year after we opened Bellacino’s of Stow. If you have been a longtime customer, you probably remember Kelly being pregnant for the first five years Bellacino’s was open. Today, we have three children, two girls and a boy, who work in the restaurant busing tables and in any other way they can.
Over the years, Kelly and I have talked to customers and listened to their needs and requests to make Bellacino’s even better. After ten and a half years of being located in the Target and Giant Eagle shopping center we decided to move locations to better serve and keep up with the changing needs of our customers.
On February 26, 2009, Bellacino’s of Stow opened a new location located at 3657 Fishcreek Road in Stow. The new amenities include an outdoor patio, banquet room, game room, a larger dining area, a pick-up window and a full service bar to better serve our customers. In addition, the new restaurant includes WiFi and 13 HDTVs. On November 9, 2009 Bellacino’s changed to a full-service restaurant– with a hostess to seat you and a server to take your order, get your drinks and make you feel welcome.
Bellacino’s of Stow is one of the few locally owned and operated restaurants remaining in the Stow area. Kelly and I live, work and spend our money locally and encourage our customers to support all locally owned and operated restaurants, retail establishments and all other businesses.
We would like to thank you for your continued patronage of Bellacino’s. We look forward to seeing you in the restaurant.
-Kelly and Brad Ruth
